Happy 42nd Birthday Singapore

Today, is the 4th times I celebrate the birthday of Singapore as Singaporean.

On 9 August 1965, under the leadership of Mr Lee Kuan Yew Singapore withdrew from the Federation Malaysia to become and became an independent republic.

Under then PM Mr Lee, Singapore developed into one of the cleanest, safest, and most economically prosperous cities in the world.

Warehouse Books Sale at Carrefour

Not many people know Carrefour Singapore is selling books.

Currently, Carrefour is having a warehouse clearance sale at Suntec City Atrium from 03 Aug to 12 Aug. There is a small section with a large selection of books! $6 each.

We bought some books.

I bought Ubuntu Hacks: Tips & Tools for Exploring, Using, and Tuning Linux at $6, while my China colleague bought 4 Oracle books at $24. Another Malaysian colleague bought some children books. If we were to buy the same amount books from book store, that could cost us more than S$300.

Other than IT books, there are quite a lot of story book for children, novel for adult and cookbook.

Some of the books are disfigured, but you can find many in good conditions, and I think it is really worth it!

So, look out for next Carrefour promotion, OK.

Possible Remedy for Dengue Fever

Singapore is facing an increase in dengue cases.

According to press releases from NEA and MOH, a total of 2868 cases were reported during the first 24 weeks of 2007 compared to 1392 cases for the same period in last year. Only two local dengue deaths have been reported so far.

I received this thru email, good to know, but up to individual to try out.

First testimony

I would like to share this interesting discovery from a classmate’s son who has just recovered from dengue fever. Apparently, his son was in the critical stage at the SJMC Hosp. ICU when his pallet counts dropped to 15 after 15 litres of blood transfusion.

His father was so worried that he seek another friend’s recommendation and his son was saved. He dislcosed that he fed his son raw juice of papaya leaves. From a pallet count of 45 after 20 litres of blood transfusion, and after takingthe raw papaya leaf juice, his pallet count immediately jumped to 135. Even the Doctors and nurses were amazed.

On the second day, his son was discharged. As it had worked so well for his son, he suggested that I pass along this great remedy.

Recipe - two raw papaya leaves, wash and pound; squeeze out juice using a muslim (or clean handkerchief). Only one tablespoon of juice can be extracted per leaf. Take two tablespoons per serving once daily. Do not boil or cook or rinse the leaf with hot water, else it loses its strength. Pound only the leafy part, NO stem or sap. The juice is very bitter, it is a life saver.

The trick to drinking bitter concoction is to first take a drink of water (to moist the the tongue so the bitterness does not get absorbed into the taste buds that quickly. Hold one’s breathe and gulp down the concoction. Immediately take another drink of water (or a fruit juice) to neutralise the bitterness. Chew on a piece of dried fruit (sour kana or similar) to further disguise the taste. Bon apetit!
